SAIT and Samsung take fuel cell miniaturization to a new lev
SAIT and Samsung SDI have showcased the world's smallest fuel cell mobile devices charger. The unit features an output level of 2W and has charging times that are just 1/5 that of its closest competitors. The mobile charging unit has already completed 200 successful continuous charges and is near-ready for commercialization. The charger itself is just 5mm thick and weighs just 5.3 ounces. The mobile charger features user-replaceable methanol cartridges to recharge the battery system in your PDA, cell phone, digital camera or PMP. SAIT has filed over 20 international patents for its hybrid charging method that allows users to operate their mobile phone or PDA while charging. Overall, the company has garnered over 120 patents for the fuel cell charger. \"Though we still need to solve ‘going smaller and sturdier’ issues, I think that we have made a technical quantum leap in commercialization. Within 2~3 years, the fuel cells including those for laptops currently in development with Samsung SDI will be widely used as it is forecasted to acquire a stable market with lower price lines,\" said Dr. Hyuk Chang, VP of SAIT. Fuel cell technology has been advancing at a rapid pace in the tech industry. Nokia has already claimed that fuel cell-powered cell phones are just a few years away. Also, Toshiba has made great strides to reduce the size and increase the power output of fuel cells suitable for notebook computers and PMPs.

Pictures emerge of Sprint's Motorola Q
What, exactly, would a Motorola Q look like all dressed up in Sprint livery? If you guessed \\"like any other Q but with Sprint logos strategically placed about its exterior,\\" you'd only be partially correct. From these press shots, it looks like Sprint will be launching out of the gate with the new (arguably hotter-looking) black variant, a color that we've already heard CDMA rival Verizon would be picking up itself in the near future. Otherwise, we get a revised Sprint-specific theme slapped onto the handset's Windows Mobile UI, the aforementioned Sprint logos front and rear, and that's about it. We still don't have an exact drop date, but current rumors have customers being able to get their QWERTY on some time between mid-December and early January. Click on for more eye candy! >

Sanyo M1 pics revealed, launch set for the 3rd
The rather decked Sanyo M1 has managed to get musicphone-yearnin' Sprint fanboys salivating already, without even a complete set of press shots to glom onto. Well, we're here to set the story straight, with a few press photos from an anonymous tipster of the M1 in all its glory, along with a full-on spec sheet for your perusal. As evidenced by those eBay shots we spotted in October, the phone isn't exactly RAZR bustin' when it comes to slim, but it's still plenty pocketable, and those fancy deets like 1GB of memory, a 2.0 megapixel camera (with flash), A2DP, and a QVGA internal display should justify the bulk here -- for wearers of all but the slimmest of jeans, at least. The best news is that the phone is purportedly set for a soft launch tomorrow, December 3rd, and some reports are coming in of phone orders going through already. Apparently the phone costs $349 -- we believe that's without contract -- but we suppose we'll find out all of this tomorrow, so no use sweating the small stuff at this point. Keep reading for that spec sheet and a few jumbo pics.

SCH-B550 - The Ultimate Mobile Gaming Machine
I thought about it for some time, and yet I don't know how I should begin this article about an all-in-one mobile phone that has communication, TV and gaming capabilities, but here it is: Samsung has unveiled yet another super-dooper, spectacular, stunning, breathtaking (and so on because I could do this for the next 2 or 3 pages) mobile phone, namely SCH-B550, designed as a mobile gaming handheld console, a phone that will surely make all video games addicted individuals out there reach the next step of their evolution: gaming Nirvana. The B550 will offer every game fanatic the possibility to play video games with the help of the built-in 3D graphics chipset, a 2.5 inch folding LCD display that will give everyone another view of what mobile gaming really means, a D-Pad and a Joypad so one will be able to have complete control over its in-game actions and last, but not least, the GXG support available only in Korea. You won't get bored even if you're not quite fond of gaming, because this handset has been developed to offer complete mobile satisfaction even to the pickiest user that will get his hands on this mean gaming mobile machine. Thus you will have at your disposal a 2 megapixel digital camera, mobile DMB TV with TV-OUT support, an MP3 player to listen to all your favorite tunes and the omnipresent wireless Bluetooth connectivity. Don't get too excited though, because the SCH-B550 isn't going to be shipped to the mobile store near you. If you want to have a chance to get a closer look over it, you will have to take a trip to Korea because there is the place where it will be launched. This way the Korean people have another reason to be happy; the end of the year is coming and we have yet another reason to envy them. Again!

LG Chocolate U830 brings the HSDPA love
LG's Chocolate just got a little sweeter, with the recent addition of HSDPA to that fantastic flip phone. The U830, its new designation, is loaded up with all sorts of other tasty treats, including 185MB of storage, a 2 megapixel shooter, stereo Bluetooth, three hours of talk time, 300 hours of standby time, and a music player (with 3.5mm headphones included!) -- all of this is pretty much what we'd seen rumored a few months ago. It'll first exclusively hit Hutchinson's 3 network in the UK, but we've got no further information as to when (or if) it'll be crossing the pond.

LG's KC1 Windows Mobile-powered smartphone to hit Korea with
While LG's Chocolate assortment is growing with feature-packed additions at an alarming rate, there looks to be a WinMo-powered sugar daddy headed down the pike with WiMax ready to rock. We knew Samsung and LG were using this year's ITU Telecom World conference as a launching plugging point for a few snazzy announcements, but today brings about the unveiling of a Windows Mobile 5-packin' smartphone boasting LG's Chocolate touch, built-in WiMax, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, two-megapixel camera, microSD slot, and Bluetooth. The phone will reportedly also support CDMA and EV-DO, and should be released in South Korea real soon -- unfortunately, there's \\"no word\\" on whether this beauty will ever see the light of day on American soil, but one can hope.

Dual-screen cellphone prototype: two great tastes that taste
Dual-screen cellphones are nothing new, after all, flips have long offered anemic external displays for caller ID and the like with a bigger, higher resolution screen on the inside for taking care of business. Still, two folding screens emerging as one bigazz display a la the 701 ThinkPad's butterfly keyboard would be a welcome addition, right? Seok Hong Jeong thinks so and is presenting his \"dual LCD mobile phone\" prototype at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2006 in Korea. He's already applied for patents in \"overseas markets\" which we presume means the USPTO among other freewheelin' entities. Godspeed sir, and please get Sammy on the horn for a couple of those 0.82-mm slim LCD's they like to brag about -- let's keep the bulk down, eh?

Answer the front door with your cellphone
Sometimes I'm afraid that a famous person will ring my doorbell but, because I'm out, I'll miss meeting them and getting them to sign my favourite rubber pelvis-hammer. So this cellphone-doorbell is a godsend - I could be sat in a coffee shop, in an airport lounge, even making sushi with a top sushi chef, and if an Oscar-winning actor or actress comes calling I can let them in and encourage them to make themselves a hot beverage while I hail the nearest taxi and speed home. With its own SIM card, this is pretty much a cellphone in an intercom box. As standard it only allows you to communicate in one direction - I get to speak to the celebrity - but manufacturer Waleli will happily sell you the requisite bits to make that two-way. Then all I need do is punch a code into my cellphone and let the person in. Thing is, I have a 3G, video-capable phone... so why can't I see who’s visiting me through a built-in camera? A feature for v.2, perhaps? The GSM Doorbell costs $596, or $900 for the full-duplex kit.

New Nokia 6275i
The Nokia 6275i is another phone from Nokia's line but I would stop short at calling it amazing. The CDMA phone has features one would expect but it's only available in Canada. The 6275i sports a QVGA screen, a 2 mega pixel camera with flash (not bad), a memory slot, and Bluetooth. It weighs 3.7 oz, so it's not heavy and the dimensions stay the course with a candybar type design. I've always been fond of candybars, real or fake, because they make logical sense when it comes to portable electronics. If you purchase the 6275i get ready to talk on this badboy all day with 210 minutes of talktime and/or 10 days of standby idle time. The battery will not disappoint the loyal Nokia followers. The display is a standard LCD able to display 262,144 colors at 240 X 320 pixels. One problem I have with this phone is the screen size. Cellphones are becoming multi-faceted devices that are expected to live up to our demand and with a small screen it's hard to multitask, run several programs, and text without the screen freezing which confuses the user. This equates to the solution; we need more screen! Okay I must admit, the screen is fine by many standards but a more landscape feel would do the trick. In addition, the 6275i has 21 MB of memory built-in, a 500 capacity phone book, infrared, Bluetooth, Wap, MMS, txt, an FM radio, and the built-in player supports a variety of formats for playing back toons. For your safety it is GPS compatible, but not in the sense that you can install applications and they tell you where to go. It has GPS technology built into it to share emergency contact information with the authorities, cell towers, and phone companies in case you are lost. For many the Java support, T9, and flash might do the trick but I see the Nokia 6271i as a typical Nokia phone with features that I've used for years. On the flip side, the size is a plus, the features are standard, and a long battery life can't hurt. Currently available in Canada and it can be bought for $200 depend on where you find it.

New Solar Panel for Mobile Phone in Development
NTT DoCoMo is developing a new type of portable solar panel to charge their FOMA phone. Unlike normal flat solar panel surface, the prototype use spherical silicon material which is able to reduce the material cost and increase efficiency. The solar panel is light weight and will give a flexibility of its shape. Their first prototype is now displayed on the Eco Style Fair tradeshow in Japan.

Apple iPhone Will Come in All Colors of the Rainbow
It seems like Kevin Rose isn't the only person with \"insider\" knowledge of the iPhone. Morgan Stanley analyst, Rebecca Runkle, has come forth with further details on the infamous phone. (How she got the info is anyone's guess). Unlike Rose, Runkle says the phone will cost $599 for the 4GB model and a whopping $649 for the 8GB version. She also claims it'll be wider than an iPod Nano, but narrower than the 5G iPod. It'll have a nice 3.5-inch display and will come in multi-colored aluminum shells like the Nano. As always, I'd take the news with a grain of salt. I especially hope she's wrong about the pricing.

Sony Ericsson Ai pictures: the non-fuzzy edition
This is more like it! No sooner had I posted out of focus leaked photos of the new Sony Ericsson Ai, much better pictures have emerged, showing the Ai in its shiny silver and brooding black finery. The keys are small, the phone is slim, and it looks set to challenge the LG Chocolate in the looks department. Sony Ericsson have a few designer phones up their sleeves for next year, and although the Ai (or W880i as it might officially be known) is being pitched as a Walkman phone, it's got the looks to be a designer phone in its own right. More pictures of the Sony Ericsson Ai after the jump.

The LI is said to have a model name K770i, will feature a 2 megapixel camera with auto focusing, M2 memory card slot, EDGE and branded as cyber-shot camera phone.
