New 3-Inch WVGA LCD Panel by Toshiba According to Telefonino Leonardo, Toshiba has demonstrate an extensive array of next-generation displays and display technologies developed by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. for cellular phone, PDA, mobile computing, and various other portable multimedia devices at the dell'ITU 2006.
The most noteworthy is the amazing prototype of 3.0-inch wide, WVGA (800x480) color active-matrix automotive display. The high-resolution WVGA format provides excellent image quality for video and/or mapping applications and will be great solution for upcoming smart phones or so called multimedia computers that bring a wide range of multimedia ingredients together.
Yeah I know, you’ll probably ask me what is so great about that? You see, first WVGA panels have been usually made in 7-inch , 8-inch or 9-inch sizes, which are pretty large for a handheld device.
So it means that devices that using the new screen can be thinner and lighter and that this great resoultion can be packed in the compact body.
Last but not the least, if you've been here for long enough then you're well aware of my love for phones that use high resolution screens. WVGA (800x480) compressed on the ~3” screen sounds amazing and guarantees more than 15000 pixels on a single square centimetre!
In practice this means that the displayed image is almost ideal, essentially I can’t find right words to describe it, it will be even better than what we have at the moment on some phones with high definition display, phones like Nokia N80 or Nokia N90 that features great screens with more than 10000 pixels per square centimetre. The future of smartphones will be amazing undoubterly.
