Drift Car Set-Up
POWER + Underpowered cars can drift fairly well has long as they are able to get the wheels spinning. + Over powered cars are abit difficult to drift, because you need grip to drift. + To have the best setup for your car you have to find a balance that your comfortable with. + A disadvantage to over powered cars is that it causes alot understeer. When accelarting the front tires usually dont have enough grip to let the car turn. This is some thing like the problem the American GTO drift car faced, and most llikely did the CAPA ute, but then again the capa ute is running slicks, and the GTO has road tyres. LSD + You can still drift with a single spinner but an LSD, locker, or welded diff will make the job alot easier. DRIVE AXLE + Rear Wheel Drive, FWD cars can be drifted and its not un-commen to see it done, but once again RWD lay-out makes the job easier. SUSPENSION + Stiffening the standard suspension is a must. Anything that you can do that minimises body flex will help you to be a better drifter. Theres also no need to go over the top as you will more then likely not notice it until you get better. Stiff springs, not too stiff that you will break bones after going over a bump. Even D1 drivers are using softer springs then they did a few years back. Just find a set-up that you suits you best. PRE - CAUTIONS + Becouse drift cars are most commonly Japanese cars, they like to rev which means they get hot. + To get the most out of your engines life and to prevent it failing at the track, get some big, good quality thermo fans, oil coolers, bigger intercooler (but not to big), vent/s, and try to direct air to places that are hard to reach or get hot. HINT/S + Try to get practise with your suspension fairly basic, as after awhile you will feel what needs to be changed, this will save you money and let you get the most out of your car.
